There is a very specific kind of confidence that only exists between the moment your alarm goes off and your first sip of coffee. It is bold. It is unwavering. And it is absolutely wrong.

You open your eyes and think, "I feel great. Sharp. Ready. I might not even need coffee today." And for about forty-five minutes, you genuinely believe this. You make plans. Big ones. You think about productivity and goals and maybe even going for a run.

Then noon shows up like a rude guest who was not invited.

Suddenly the spreadsheet you were so confident about makes zero sense. The email you wrote before your first cup reads like it was typed by someone wearing oven mitts. The run you planned has been rescheduled to sometime next decade.

Here is the thing about that morning overconfidence. Your brain does not fully boot up the second your eyes open. It sort of shuffles out in a bathrobe, half-awake, telling you everything is fine when it absolutely is not. Coffee does not give you confidence. It gives you accuracy. It is the difference between thinking you can do something and actually being able to do it without embarrassing yourself.

That gap, between the half-booted brain and the fully caffeinated one, is honestly one of the more fascinating and hilarious parts of being a coffee person.

In their own words: “As one of the first artisan coffee roasters in our region, we set out to produce the highest quality coffee that we, and our community, could be proud of. Sourcing coffee from over 27 different countries and supplying our community, and over 600 wholesale customers across southwestern Ontario with high-quality coffee, roasted right here in our small town shop.

We launched Baden Coffee Company in our hometown of Baden, Ontario, in 1997. At first we supplied pre-packaged coffee to offices and institutions within our community, but soon realized there was a demand for locally produced, high-quality coffee. We decided to take up that challenge and so began our journey into sourcing and roasting our own coffees.”
