Someone says, “Interesting choice.”
You hear, “I have reviewed your entire life and found it structurally unsound.”
Someone asks, “Did you sleep well?”
You hear, “You look like a Victorian chimney sweep who lost a custody battle with a mattress.”
This is not necessarily sarcasm.
It may simply be the pre-coffee interpretation department, which is staffed by one nervous intern and a raccoon wearing reading glasses.
Before coffee, tone becomes suspicious. Punctuation feels aggressive. A period at the end of a text message can trigger a full parliamentary inquiry.
“Okay.”
Okay?
What does okay mean?
Are we okay? Is society okay? Has the raccoon filed something?
Then coffee arrives, the emotional fog lifts, and “Interesting choice” returns to its natural habitat: a mildly curious remark about your socks.
The lesson is simple. Before deciding that everyone has become unusually sarcastic, drink something hot and allow your optimism to finish loading.
Coffee note
Fairtrade International has raised minimum prices for certified arabica and robusta coffee, with the new floor taking effect December 1. The change is meant to give farmers more price security as production costs rise and markets remain volatile.
