Your bag has requested one more inspection

Posted 16/10/2026

You packed the bag yourself.

You watched the keys go into the front pocket. You placed the wallet beside them. You added the charger, the notebook, and the emergency granola bar that has survived three governments.

Then you zipped the bag.

And immediately wondered whether any of those things were actually inside.

This is how the morning brain works. It can witness an event, participate in the event, and still demand an independent inquiry into the event. Suddenly you are standing by the door reopening the bag like a customs officer who has received an anonymous tip from your own hippocampus.

Keys? Present.

Wallet? Present.

Phone? In your hand, currently being used as a flashlight to search for the phone.

The official explanation is that routine actions do not always leave vivid memories. The unofficial explanation is that, before coffee, your brain stores important information in a damp cardboard box labelled “probably fine.”

So you check again. Not because the charger has learned teleportation, but because reassurance feels cheaper than arriving somewhere with twelve percent battery and the wrong cable.

Coffee does not magically pack the bag. It simply appoints a competent adult to the records department. After a few sips, the memory becomes clearer: yes, the wallet is inside; yes, the keys are there; no, you do not need to conduct a fourth inspection unless the granola bar has begun making demands.

Until then, unzip away. Morning trust is earned one cup at a time.

Coffee note

Yemeni-style coffeehouses are growing quickly across the United States, bringing late-night gathering places, traditional drinks, and a coffee culture built for lingering rather than grabbing a cup and fleeing. The Associated Press reports that cafés operated by six major Yemeni chains grew by 50 percent in one year, reaching 136 locations—not counting smaller chains and independents.
