Where did all your coins go?

Posted 6/7/2026

Coins are sneaky little criminals. One minute your wallet is jingling like a holiday song, and the next it's so empty you could hear an echo. No holes in your pockets or obvious heist. Just gone, like they evaporated into thin air and took your dignity with them.

The real culprit is that tired brains make terrible financial decisions. Not big dramatic ones like buying a boat at midnight (although, respect if you have). We're talking about the small stuff. The vending machine snack you don't remember choosing. The parking meter you overfed by three dollars. The gas station impulse buy that made zero sense at 7am.

Fatigue turns perfectly reasonable humans into little spending gremlins who fund the coin economy one foggy decision at a time. Science actually backs this up. When your brain is running on fumes, memory retention drops, impulse control loosens up, and suddenly a bag of mystery chips sounds like a completely logical purchase.

Coffee, on the other hand, has a genuinely interesting relationship with memory. Caffeine helps the brain consolidate information better, which means you're more likely to actually remember what you spent, why you spent it, and whether that vending machine sandwich was even remotely worth it (it wasn't). A well-timed cup keeps the gremlin in check.

Which brings us nicely to the Black Coffee Please Newsletter, where we dig into coffee with the same kind of curiosity you get at 2am reading weird corners of the internet. Roasters worth knowing, cafes worth finding, and the occasional rabbit hole that makes you question everything in the best possible way.

We love it - how about you? Hit reply and let us know!

Seriously … please.
