Automatic doors have figured something out that most people haven't admitted yet. They don't just detect motion. They detect life force. And on those mornings when you're shuffling toward the entrance of a grocery store at 8am, moving at the speed of cold syrup, those doors take one long look at you and genuinely pause to consider their options.
Are you a person? Are you a very slow shopping cart? Are you a spirit who hasn't realized they've crossed over? The sensor needs a second. It's not broken. It's cautious.
Scientists will give you some boring explanation about infrared detection and motion thresholds. But the real answer is much more interesting: doors are judging your commitment to being awake. And on the mornings you haven't had coffee yet, you are simply not passing the test. You're technically present but energetically absent. A ghost in sneakers.
The funny thing is that coffee doesn't just wake you up. It signals to the universe and apparently automatic door sensors that yes, this human has made a choice to exist today. It broadcasts something. A frequency. A warmth. The kind of thing that makes doors swing open with confidence instead of hesitation.
Once you've had a proper cup, you walk differently. You exist with more intention. Doors open. People nod. The world cooperates just slightly more than it did twenty minutes ago.

Roaster Notes:
Lil Bear’s Coffee Roastery (https://www.lilbearscoffee.com/ )
Guelph, Ontario
In their own words: “This Coffee Roastery was started in memory of our Landseer Newfoundland Lily A.K.A. “Lil Bear” who was one of the best pups we could have every asked for. She was truly one of a kind.
What started as a summer job prior to the first year of university became the beginning of my exploration into the world of coffee. Here I took my first steps in learning how to taste and evaluate coffees. Since then, it has become a lifelong search for the best coffee in the world that I could enjoyed right at home.
In recent years, I have continued this hunt for “S-tier” coffee, coffee that imprints on you at the first sip, making you want to tell friends and family about it long after finishing the last drop. These beans have truly unique flavors that you might not expect to find in a coffee.
My goal with Lil Bear’s Coffee Roastery is to search out those truly distinct beans, to roast them to highlight their unique profile, and to bring them directly to you to enjoy an amazing cup of coffee right at home.”
