Somewhere between the spin cycle and a Tuesday morning, the universe quietly steals one sock and keeps it as payment for something you'll never fully understand.
You search everywhere. Under the bed. Behind the dryer. Inside other socks, which somehow makes sense at 6am. Nothing. You declare it gone, mourn it briefly, and move on with your slightly mismatched life.
Then three days later, there it is. Sitting in plain sight. In a spot you checked twice with both eyes open and a flashlight.
You weren't running on full power during the original search. You were running on morning logic, which is basically your brain trying to solve problems using only the fumes from last night's sleep. Morning logic tells you the sock could be "anywhere" and then checks the same three spots repeatedly expecting different results.
Coffee changes that. Not in a magical way, just in the way that your brain actually starts firing in the right order. Suddenly you're thinking in straight lines instead of sleepy circles. The sock reveals itself because you finally showed up ready to find it.
There's a pattern here that shows up everywhere. Sharp thinking requires a sharp start. And a sharp start requires something worth drinking in your hand while your brain catches up to the day.
