Your brain is basically a toddler running on no sleep, and it has opinions about everything, including the weather.
When you're tired, a light drizzle outside doesn't just sound like rain. It sounds like the sky is personally attacking your roof with a fire hose. Scientists will tell you it's something to do with acoustics and perception. But the real answer is simpler and a little funnier than that. Your brain, when underpowered, turns up the volume on absolutely everything. The heating clicks. The fridge hums. Your neighbour's dog sneezes three houses down and suddenly it sounds like a foghorn.
This isn't a flaw in the system. It's actually your brain waving a little white flag and asking very politely for fuel. Not the "I'll grab something later" kind of fuel. The real stuff. The kind that arrives in a mug and smells like it means business.
Coffee doesn't actually give your brain superpowers. What it does is quieter than that. It blocks the receptors that make everything feel heavy and dramatic. So the rain goes back to being just rain. The fridge goes back to being background noise. Your neighbour's dog goes back to being completely irrelevant to your morning.
The whole thing is kind of beautiful when you think about it. One decent cup and the world stops being a cinematic disaster film and starts being a Tuesday again.

Roaster Notes:
Café Olimpico (https://cafeolimpico.com/ )
Montreal, QC
In their own words: “In 1970, an Italian immigrant by the name of Rocco Furfaro purchased a coffee machine, a special satellite dish and a pool table for his new business, Café Olimpico.
Originally a place where Rocco and his friends could watch their beloved Azzurri play European football, it soon became a gathering place for the whole neighbourhood—a place where you could enjoy a traditional Italian espresso and find respite from whatever was happening in the outside world.
Over 50 years later, Café Olimpico is still that welcoming space—it’s still family run by people that are passionately committed to the Italian traditions of authenticity, generosity and family. Coffee lovers from all over the world continue to linger around its tables for the quality of the coffee, of course, but also for the moments of pure magic and small kindnesses that can only happen inside Olimpico’s four walls.”
